If you’ve been enrolled in your Medicare Advantage plan for less than a year, I have good news.
When you enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan for the first time and find that it doesn’t meet your needs, you have a one-time 12-month trial period.
During this period, you can return to Original Medicare. You also have the option to reclaim your previous Medigap policy, provided your carrier hasn’t discontinued the plan.
You can also apply to a different Medigap plan. However, you may face medical underwriting (you'll need to answer medical questions on the application).
Must be done PRIOR to the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment period
January 1 to February 14 each year. During this time, you can disenroll from a Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) and apply for a MedSup and also enroll in a stand-alone Part D prescription drug plan.
Disenrollment requests are effective on the first day of the month following the request date. For example, if you disenroll in February, it won't go into effect until March 1.
